Why massage theraphy? Well, for one thing, it feels great! With a gentle or firm touch, the massage therapist rubs and kneads the skin and muscles. Most people feel wonderful from the beginning, but the results don’t stop there. Massage therapy effectively reduces muscle tension and naturally increases the strength and flexibility of the joints. It both relieves and helps prevent joint and structural problems. Professional massage therapists can provide stress relief to specific groups of muscles, prevent or relieve buildup of lactic acid after strenuous exercise, and aid fluid elimination in cases of swelling caused by injury or poor circulation. Full body massage encourages good posture, improves muscle tone, and increases the flow of nutrients and oxygen throughout the body. It enhances the circulation of blood and lymph, and so can improve immune function. It greatly reduces emotional fatigue and calms the nervous system. Massage relieves congestion and helps people who suffer from long term respiratory difficulties to breathe easier.
Why regular massage ? ...to cleanse muscles While therapeutic massage is wonderfully relaxing, another important benefit is the cleansing of metabolic waste from the muscles. The physical action of massage provides both an immediate cleansing effect as well as the long-term effect of restoring the muscle’s systems of elimination. You might say that regular massage is good “muscle hygiene.” When a muscle is sore, bruised, or injured, you may feel a “knot.” Often we feel hard, lumpy tissue under the skin and around the muscles. This may or may not be related to a specific injury, but it does indicate that your connective tissue, or fascia, is under stress. This is a common result of overstressed lifestyles that typically don’t allow for appropriate levels of rest and activity. As tension builds in muscle tissue, it begins to interfere with the assimilation of nutrients and the elimination of wastes. Acid crystals build up in the tissues, and this results in pain and loss of flexibility. All these factors interfere with circulation and the tissue begins to resemble hard, dry leather. Massage starts to mechanically break up the acid crystals so they can be flushed from the tissue and eventually removed by the body’s various channels of elimination. As circulation is restored, you begin to feel a softness and elasticity in the skin and muscles, which also feel refreshed and invigorated. It is important to drink extra water after massage to assist your body’s efforts to eliminate the waste and rehydrate the tissues. Getting regular massage is good “muscle hygiene” in the same way that regularly flossing your teeth is good dental hygiene. Muscles that get regular massage are more supple, flexible, and better hydrated. All this results in your feeling more youthful, energized, and at ease in your body. Does greater flexibility, freedom from pain, and increased energy sound good to you? We encourage you to make regular therapeutic massage a part of your overall health plan. What to expectQuestionnaire ...brief health history Before your first massage, you will complete a brief questionnaire. We need some basic health information, Consultation "...why are you coming for a massage today?" After reviewing the questionnaire, the therapist will discuss with you the type of massage most appropriate for your needs and answer any questions you may have. Each person responds to massage differently, and your therapist will explain what results you might expect. Massage ...time to breath and relax After explaining the massage process, the therapist leaves the treatment room, allowing you to undress in private. You then lie on a comfortable massage table, covering yourself with a sheet and comforter. We respect the modesty and privacy of our clients. Our treatments are strictly therapeutic, completely non-sexual, and confidential. Soft music is played during the massage (you are welcome to bring your own selections). Therapists apply lotions and /or oils to enhance the treatment (let us know if you prefer fragrance-free or hypo-allergenic). Your comfort and sense of well-being is our first priority throughout your massage. After your massage ...time to integrate the experience
After a session, we encourage clients to take time to relax and integrate some of the benefits of the massage. You may wish to reserve the whirlpool or sauna (ask at the front desk) or take a complementary shower. Be sure to drink extra water after your massage. There is a water filter in the hall sink.
How long should my massage be ? 15, 30, 45 minute massage times...good for specific areas. Shorter massages sessions are most often used to work out tension or pain in specific areas of the body such as the head, neck and shoulders, legs and feet, or arms and hands. The longer the massage, the more areas can receive work. Our most popular shorter massage is the 30 minute massage. 60, 75, 90, & 120 minute massage times...good for the whole body. Longer massages allow ample time to work the entire body. These langer massages are recommended if you want a full body massageand also want to work on specific problem area or areas. Our most popular full body massage is 90 minutes. Does insurance cover massage therapy? Some health insurance plans may cover massage therapy when prescribed by a medical doctor for a specific condition. Motor vehicle and worker’s compensation insurance may cover massage for injuries related to an accident. We don’t bill for you but can provide receipts that you can turn in to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Do flex plans cover massage therapy? Both acupuncture and massage are often covered under employee flexible benefit plans. Simply ask at work whether or not your plan covers these benefits. Medical savings accounts (MSAs) also may cover acupuncture. Click prices for current rates. On-Site massage available, call 218-722-2411.
